This 1964 Composition by Belgian artist Georges Sempels marks a vivid moment in his abstract practice. Executed in oil on panel (49 × 62 cm), the work is built from broad, free planes of ochre, yellow, red, green and black.
Sempels belongs to a somewhat forgotten generation of Belgian artists who made their own contribution to abstract painting in the fifties and sixties. Between 1960 and 1963, his work was recognised several times at the Prix de la Jeune Peinture Belge. Strong work that clearly belongs to its time, yet feels surprisingly fresh today.
- Dimensions 49 × 62 cm
